What is Theatre?

What is theatre?

I am delighted to say that it can be anything one make it to be. you can perform on the stage or even in the public. It is still considered theatre =]. This class truly has brought out my passion in the art of acting and performance. At start when this class started, i honestly have to say, i hated it. Reason is because i did not get to act as much since i thought it was an actual acting class. Thankfully i stuck though because the things we watched and learned made things worth wild. Best of all i even had the chance to act three times and that made all of the difference for me. Theatre is more amusing and realistic than film so ill check out both of them instead of just choosing one.
I will honestly go out of my way to watch more theatre performances with my friends at sjsu and anywhere else as well.

Hip hop theater

The article called hip hop theater got my attention. It honestly shows that theater is an suspenseful kind of art because no one can expect what will happen in hip hop theater besides the artist himself. Hip hop is shown all around San Jose and honestly, I am a part of it myself. It inspires me that hip hop can be put in that kind of form. I usually expect theater to be in a set way and has to be followed out all the way though by the director but the fact that the artist himself can do whatever he wants makes it all the more interesting. I love how there can be poetry in this art we call hip hop and honestly I wish i can see a live performance of it.

The final rehearsal

Yesterday was our final rehearsal date and I am quite please with how we have pulled everything together. I am quite scared on how we will do but with our skills and natural reactions, i believe we should be fully fine. The best part of this project is that I now know my group a ton more better. We bonded and we understand how each of us would react. This can help us improv if we forget any lines. Another great factor is that this is probably the best part of the class. I am seriously beyond happy that this chioce was presented in the class. I would not want to do a paper because it would be too simple and you would not be able to get hands on experience. When we bonded, we realize that every single one of us is different and have different views towards things. In the end everything is still pushed and blamed on the media because of how they present things. When you look at it, the major cause of many things are presented by the media and the media presents it in the most unrealistic and severe forms possible. I hope we do well and that people will realize what we are trying to present by doing this.

Final day 2

OMFGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!! WHO KNEW MAKING A SCRIPT WAS SOOOO HARD!!!!!
Honestly i thought it would be simplistic if we all worked together but actually, it made everything a million times more confusing! We want to incorporate the cost of everything without making it too confusing and try to let everyone have a good laugh in the end. In the end we combined all of our actions into sections where we would have our own voices on how we want it to happen. By doing so things went more flow like and i am extremely excited to show off this script!

Final project day 1

Today we have formed out group and honestly this looks quite easy. The main reason for this thought is that i have worked with these people before and scheduling rehearsal dates will be easier this way.The topic we choose was quite confusing because i did not quite understand where we wanted to go with consumerism. After having our director explain it more, it looked really interesting and im quite glad we will be doing this topic. The idea for performance is also fun because it will cause everyone to be active. The main project goal is to show that there are many things we don't need and yet we get it any way to try to show off and stand out. This changes the individual and cause them to become something they shouldn't be. This is also what many people would consider inappropriate change or in a more simple way of expressing it FAKEEEEEE.

Video Review

I honestly have to say, the blue man group was amazing. I can not believe they even shaved their heads for that project!!! It was very entertaining to see them go up against the bboys because I myself use to be a bboy and i would have reacted the same way as those bboys. The African American group was beyond funny with their dance. I really love how they were all dressed up for that event and how funny they were when they read off the script.

I honestly learned a lot from our own group project. I found out that the bigger the groups, the more complicated it will be to navigate rehearsal schedules. Even worst, doing a topic that you do not know the slightest thing about will make everything more confusing. The subject of sipderwoman was one that took up about 4 hours for myself personally to find anything of importance detailing. I did learn that spiderwoman is a subject that makes comedic remarks towards harsh subjects that would not normally be express unless in the form of a joke. The idea to explain it at first was far to plain and simple so we decided to spice things up and put ourselves in the role as actors. Many parts were cut off because of time but, in the end, it was still an amazing performance in my opinion.

Finallll!

OUR GROUP WAS ON FIREEEEEEE. It felt amazing when the class professor said A+++, my heart honestly dropped the second she said that because I have never gotten that kind of response besides being in key club during high school. It was a little disappointing though how the lights did not go off at the right time for the final finishing move during the performance. I thought we were going to get an F for sure when that part didn't go off correctly. I was screaming so many swear words in my head that if someone heard it, i would be sent to some reforming school. I finally understand why so many actors would rage off stage to vent after their performance or before their performance. I am still beyond happy at the end result and i love my group of directors soooooooooooooooooooooooooo much! They made everything possible and gave me the funniest scene. I really love patting my partners head during the second scene because i know it gets her irritated which actually gets her into the correct character. In all words, i can not begin to explain how amazing my group is and I would love another project like this. I honestly thought the classed i joined was an acting class rather than an informative theater class. Even so, i love the fact that we are allowed to act and if we didn't, i would dislike this class to the highest level, Loving this class <3.

Day 2

THIS MEMORIZATION IS GOING TO DRIVE ME INSANE. I have to continuously look at my script. On the bright side, the acting part is coming along greatly =]. Our plans on how things work was amazing. I honestly felt like i messed up a lot at the start because i had a different idea than my director, thankfully we were able to finalize certain aspect in movements to 50/50 on a line. The part that suck the most in my opinion during this time is that we had another group with us when we decided to practice and they saw our great idea on how to use the lighting, i honestly wish they werent with us at the time being but oh well, our goal is to be top and no matter what we will be. Well to me that is the goal but yayyy team! I have two more days to memorize and act our my actions perfectly or else this will not work out so well.Actors = hardest position everrrrrrrrrrr.

Acting project day rehearsal 1

Honestly, i really wanted to act and direct at the same time because it sounded fun and entertaining to make things happen. In the end I decided to stick with the acting role because it would allow to have less work and actually enable me to use my idealist actions. I was excited at the ideas we were all thinking off to use for the script that was chosen and I really dislike the fact that i have to memorize so many lines. Even though these lines are only considered a few in the eyes of an actor, acting and memorizing at the same time is horrible!!!!! I learned that it will take forever until i will memorize these lines correctly.

Lee Minh-Ho

Lee Minh is my all time favorite actor at the time being because of his performance in "Boys over Flower" and "City Hunter". He is a Korean actor who did not intentionally get into acting until his high school years. I have began to follow Korean drama at the very start of my high school years and ever sine than, it has given me a sense of how to act and set our certain emotions though my actions. The reason why Lee Minh is my favorite is because in Boys over Flower, he plays a role that will take your breath away. Recently with his second newest drama that has came out called " City Hunter",  I can honestly say, if you do not watch it, you are missing out on a great actor. It is simply breath taking with the way he act out his character. I look up to Lee Minh because he didn't just do it because he was force to, it just happened with interest and he followed it though. He even went to Konkuk University for art and film.

Flash back

As I relook on my past experience, I realize how interesting a human person can be. I see myself doing a flash mob with my fellow classmate and realize it is an amazing experience. I say that it is an amazing experience because it was an unprepared or sync flash mob. reason for this is because it was set up last min and the fact that the timers were all out of sync for a majority of the cellular phones used to begin the activities. It was also interesting for me because of how everyone reacted. A majority of them had wide grins as they were playing their part. my experience on this was quite simple since this wasn't my first time doing a flash mob. I had the ideas of how it should be already. I only wish that all of the timers were set at the exact same time for a more powerful and overwhelming affect.

Audience, performers, space, and story

The art of performing can come in many forms. Today it can even be in the form of poetry and serve as an inspirational creation. Usually when people think of performing, they would think of acting as the only main form. I originally only thought of theatre and dancing as the only possible forms of performance. after watching Slam Nation, I realize that a performance comes in many shape and form. The reason for this is the fact that slam nation hits the major four functions of a theatre. the first function is having and audience and I can reassure you, slam nation does have an authentic audience. Slam nation is a new form poetry that is competitive and entertaining. It brings audience from all over the world together. The audience that are in slam nation plays out an important role suh as judging and giving a performance rating. This is similar to that of the theatre where they give their opinion and do criticisms. This is not possible if they did not have any performers. Both the theatre and Slam nation have performers that comes from many background and areas. They come from all over the US and the world. Each of these performers have their own skills and certain styles for performing. The place of performing changes from one place to another. In slam nations they start out at a bar and slowly get their way up toward better stages as they move forward in the tournament. For actors, their space and location is extremely poor at the start of they are an unknown artist but as they continue and become more known, their stage will get better and better with time, this is how both slam nation and actual live theatre are similar with their space to perform. finally each of these two have a story they go by. he theatre has a story line that they rehearse. For performers of slam nation, people perform with their own set script and it is then performed. This performance all depends on the actor and the scence is set by them.
